What we use and why

When you visit, Cloudflare handles technical information needed to deliver and protect this website, such as your IP address, requested page, time of request and browser information. We use this to run a safe, working site. Our lawful basis for the personal information involved is our legitimate interest in providing and protecting the site.

If you contact us, we use the name, reply details and message you choose to send to answer you. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries. If your message concerns a purchase or possible purchase, we may also need that information to take steps you request before a contract or to support that contract.

Purchases are completed on Etsy, Gumroad or Amazon under each marketplace's own privacy notice. If a marketplace shares order or contact details with us, we use what is needed to help with the order, provide support and meet legal or accounting duties. This website does not collect payment-card details. The free Halloween guide needs no account, email address or purchase. We do not ask children to give us their information to use it.

The Kit signup form and newsletter are not public. We will review this notice before introducing them.

Optional analytics: your choice

Google Analytics and Cloudflare Web Analytics are optional under the same choice. Neither analytics service loads through this site unless you choose Accept analytics. If you choose Continue without analytics, the guide and website still work. We rely on your consent for this optional measurement, including Google Analytics cookies.

Cloudflare Web Analytics uses a browser beacon to measure site use and page performance. Cloudflare says its RUM beacon neither reads nor writes cookies, localStorage or similar browser storage. Cloudflare also says the source IP received during ordinary HTTP handling is discarded at the nearest Cloudflare data centre, rather than stored in its core analytics data. Cloudflare Web Analytics does not log URL query strings. Its beacon is separate from Cloudflare's technical work to deliver and protect the website.

We use Google Analytics to understand how consenting visitors use our pages, free resources and product journeys, and whether they click the free ghost outline or an allowlisted marketplace link. We assess movement from the Halloween guide to the Midnight Makers product page through page views; we do not send a separate guide-to-product click event. A marketplace click is not a checkout, order, purchase or revenue. We have not marked any analytics action as a key event.

Google Analytics may receive the page location, referral and approved campaign information, selected interaction events, general browser and device information that remains after our privacy settings, and first-party analytics cookies or identifiers when you consent. Where Google Analytics cookies are set, we configure them with an expiry of up to around 60 days rather than Google's longer default period. Some Google session-state information may be refreshed while analytics is active. This browser-cookie lifetime is separate from the two-month Google Analytics data-retention settings described below. We do not send names or email addresses as Google Analytics event fields. Our code sends page paths and only specifically approved campaign labels in its custom page and event URLs; the property also has email and selected query-key redaction on. These safeguards reduce risk but cannot guarantee that arbitrary personal information will never reach Google. Please do not put private information in website URLs or campaign links.

In this Google Analytics property, Google Signals and user-provided data collection are off; there is no linked Google Ads account. Ads personalisation and granular location/device collection are disallowed in all regions. Generic automatic interaction types and browser-history page changes are off; Page loads remains on. Event-data and user-data retention are each set to two months, and new activity does not reset user-data retention. Standard aggregated reports may remain available longer.

We save your accept or reject choice in this browser for up to six months so you do not have to answer on every visit. You can reopen Privacy & analytics choices at any time and choose again. If you withdraw, the page reloads without either optional analytics script and we try to remove readable first-party Google Analytics cookies. Withdrawal stops future optional measurement; it cannot undo information already processed. You may also clear the choice and cookies through your browser.

How long other information is kept

We keep messages and order-support records only for as long as needed to respond, provide support, meet legal or accounting duties, or resolve a dispute. Technical security records are kept under the relevant provider's retention arrangements and our operational needs. Email us if you want more detail about a record that concerns you.

Providers and processing outside the UK

Cloudflare hosts and protects this website. If you accept optional analytics, Google provides Google Analytics to Household Reset Co as a data-processing service, and Cloudflare also processes its separate Web Analytics beacon data. Google says Analytics data from UK devices is initially collected through UK or EU-region infrastructure before being forwarded for further processing. Google may process information internationally. Its applicable data-processing terms and transfer information describe safeguards for restricted international transfers. Cloudflare says RUM data may be processed in a different country or region from where it originated; its data-processing terms describe safeguards for applicable restricted transfers. Email us if you want information about, or a copy of, safeguards relevant to your information.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may ask to see or correct your information, ask us to erase or restrict its use, or request a portable copy. You may object to processing based on our legitimate interests. You can withdraw analytics consent at any time using the choice control above. Email us to exercise a right or raise a concern; we will explain if an exception applies.

You may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK data-protection regulator. You do not have to contact us first.

Changes

We will review this notice when our website, providers or uses of information change.
